You might not think about your indoor air quality that often, but it is extremely important. Most people spend 90% of their day inside, especially in Georgia to escape from the steamy heat, either at work, at school, sleeping or just being home with family.
If you’re finding your home is especially dirty and your indoor air quality is poor, here are 3 quick and easy ways to improve it:
- Take Off Your Shoes. People and pets are actually the two most common culprits for tracking in dirt and allergens into your home. Have your family and guests remove their shoes at the door, and be sure to have a regular cleaning schedule to remove any residual dander and dirt in your home.
- Buy Higher MERV Air Filters. Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value (MERV) is the standard measure for household air filters. Buy a higher MERV value, between 8-10, for finer filtration and a better indoor air quality.
- Check Humidity Levels. As summer comes to a close and fall starts settling in the Metro Atlanta area, your AC probably won’t be on all day constantly moving air throughout your home. While this is good for your electric bill, the lack of airflow puts you at risk for breeding mold and mildew around your home. Buy a hygrometer (don’t worry, they have digital ones!) for your home, and if your humidity levels are over 50%, try turning on the bathroom fans or investing in a dehumidifier.
These are three simple tips that you can make today in your home to improve your indoor air quality. And remember, Gagne AC is here to help! If you have an AC or heat issue, or simply want to schedule a maintenance appointment, contact us or visit our online blog and knowledge center.
